<\/p>\n<p>In 2011 we marked the 70<sup>th<\/sup>anniversary of the deportations of June 14, 1941, when 15,425 residents of Latvia (Latvians, Jews, Russians, Poles) were deported to Siberia.\u00a0 Among them there were 3,751 children aged up to 16.<\/p>\n<p>During the process, men were separated from their families and sent to gulags, where many of them were sentenced to death, while others were imprisoned in labour camps.\u00a0 The facts of history and dry and few, but many of the victims and their children and grandchildren are still among us.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The deportations of June 14 were organised in a great hurry, with no thought given to what would happen to the deportees.\u00a0 The main thing was to send \u201cundesirables\u201d away from their homes.<\/p>\n<p>In 1946, at the request of relatives of deportees who remained in Latvia, orphans and semi-orphans were brought back from Siberia.\u00a0 More than 1,500 children were sent to family members or orphanages in Latvia.\u00a0 In later years, however, many of these children were rearrested and shipped back to Siberia.<\/p>\n<p>During the summer of 2010, people who were deported to Siberia in 1941 as children joined their own children and a video production crew to travel to the far North of Russia \u2013 Norilsk, Dudinka, Karaula and Ust-port.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were brought to Karaula, which is beyond Dudinka.\u00a0 A small ship was used to transport us to Tolstiy Nos.\u00a0 There was a barrel making facility there, along with a store \u2013 six buildings in all.\u00a0 We lived in the attic.\u00a0 The people who arrived later lived in tents.\u00a0 Then they brought us wood and bricks so that we could put up new buildings.\u201d\u00a0 Anna Kauli\u0146a<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were great guys in our brigade.\u00a0 They wanted to keep us in Dixon, but the KGB said no, and we were taken to Ust-port.\u00a0 We arrived there on October 3, and on the next night it was -20 degrees outside.\u00a0 We had a tent and a barrel in the middle where we could light a fire.\u00a0 We stole coal so that we would not freeze to death.\u201d\u00a0 Juris Andr\u0113ns<\/p>\n<p>More than 500,000 people of various nationalities passed through the punitive camps of Norilsk.\u00a0 A local hill seems so threatening that even birds avoid flying over it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the Latvians in Norilsk were deportees.\u00a0 Many were set ashore on the banks of the river at unpopulated locations to go fishing.\u00a0 The son of R\u012bga Mayor Andrejs Fr\u012bdenbergs, Varis, arrived there with his mother and two sisters.\u00a0 People had to live in tents or dugouts, but there is permafrost there!\u201d\u00a0 Laimonis Kr\u016bmi\u0146\u0161<\/p>\n<p>In 1942, 42 Baltic military officers were executed on the shores of Lake Lama.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe winter of 1941 and 1942 was terribly difficult for people in Lama.\u00a0 There was not enough food.\u00a0 People not just in Norilsk, but also in Lama suffered from scurvy, and then there was also a wave of dysentery.\u00a0 Most people got sick, and we buried 14 people during the winter.\u00a0 All of them were from the Baltic States.\u00a0 Some very sick people were sent to Norilsk by plane or other form of transport.\u201d\u00a0 Ivans Sidorovs<\/p>\n<p>The victims of the deportations and their children still live in the Krasnoyarsk region.\u00a0 We put up a memorial plaque for mothers and children who fell victim to deportations between 1941 and 1949.<\/p>\n<p>The Documentary Film \u201c<strong>BALANCE SHEET OF SIBERIA<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Director and producer:\u00a0 Dzintra Geka<\/p>\n<p>Camera:\u00a0 Aivars Lub\u0101nietis<\/p>\n<p>Editing:\u00a0 Armands Zvirbulis<\/p>\n<p>Video engineer:\u00a0 J\u0101nis Kazulis<\/p>\n<p>Score:\u00a0 P\u0113teris Vasks<\/p>\n<p>Sound editing:\u00a0 Normunds Deinats<\/p>\n<p>Assistant to the director:\u00a0 Baiba \u0100renta<\/p>\n<p>The producers are thankful for the assistance of the <strong>&#8220;Ziedot&#8221;
